The Ego

Most of us have heard of the ego and I have been fortunate enough to study the subject at university. The good news is that I’m not going to bore you with terms like the Id, ego or even superego.

As someone who has spent a long time reigning in my own ego and studying other people my conclusion is this. The bigger the ego, the larger the window into a person’s mind. Let me add that I’m not the first to come up with that but I have personally experienced it, not only by reflecting on my own life daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly and beyond. I compare myself today to who I was 10, 20 and even 30 years ago and, not in an egotistical way, but I like what I see.

I have experienced people who have built up a large ego in order to cover up what they see as their own shortcomings. Indeed many people don’t or can’t recognise their own issues let alone understand what their is. Unfortunately their ego doesn’t cover anything up. On the contrary it magnifies their issues. Am I being critical or pointing fingers at such people? No. I would like to see people setting themselves free by being honest with themselves.

From a mediumship standpoint I also have a deep empathy which allows me to see inside people, whether I want to or not! Many egotistical people suffer from low self-esteem and, again, I am not the first to notice such traits.

So, what am I going on about here? I learned a long time ago that I don’t need to be the centre of attention. I don’t brag about my achievements. Indeed very few people actually know about my accomplishments and I’m fine with that. Why does anyone need to know? Now what I do get involved in is the promotion of my book. That is in no way bragging or an attempt to earn more royalties. No, my book was written to spread a message. Several messages but the main one being positivity.

A good way forward to becoming a more positive person is what? Reducing one’s ego! Today I am who I am and, without any doubt in my mind, I am going to improve who I am. Very few people will actually realise or witness these changes in me because I have my ego very much under control. I’m not perfect but I have no need to shout anything from the rooftops.

Not everyone who reads this will be able to recognise their own egotistical behaviour. Why? Too big an ego 😂. For those who do though, why not try it for yourself? Through all of the changes I have made to my life the only pain I have experienced was in fighting with myself. You see, my younger self made a lot of decisions in order to protect himself/us and in doing so our ego grew and grew. My inner child did not like the changes that adult me was making and fought tooth and nail to oppose these changes. He still does but adult me is in control now.

The habit of blowing one’s own trumpet can be a tough one to change but ask anyone like me who has made these changes and you’ll find no regrets. Other people who think they know you? Many will oppose your beliefs but not to worry about them. These changes are for us and nobody else.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
